Transition to School
Poipoia te kākano, kia puāwai - Nurture the seed so that it will blossom
Kākano Whakatō - Planting the Seed
Kākano Whakatō – Planting the Seed’ is our Transition to School programme, designed to give our tamariki the best possible start to school. We believe a strong transition is key to success, helping tamariki feel safe, connected, and ready to thrive in their new learning environment. This programme not only welcomes students into our Kākano team but also nurtures their curiosity and excitement for learning, setting the foundation for their future growth at Chelsea Primary School.
What can you expect at school visits?
Visit Tahi 9-11am
Parents are invited to join their child in the classroom for a fun learning through play session. This is a great opportunity to explore the classroom together, followed by a short tour of the school.
Visit Rua 9-11am
Your child will experience the classroom independently. After pānui, they will say ka kite and remain in class while parents step out to allow them to build confidence and settle into the routine. Parents will then head to the staffroom to meet with the Principal or one of our Deputy Principals.
Visit Toru 9-11am
Your child will take part in an Enrichment session — a fun and exciting part of our wider curriculum. While the children are enjoying their session, parents will head to the staffroom for an information session with Miss Hedges.
Visit Whā 9-12.30
Your child will join the class independently and you are welcome to head off for the morning. Please return by 12:25pm to collect your child.
