Information A – Z
Annual School Donation
Why Do We Need Your Donation?
Schools in New Zealand receive government funding based on a per-student formula, determined by each school’s equity index. At Chelsea Primary School, our equity index is 362 which means we receive less funding than schools with higher equity indexes. This funding covers the essential costs of running the school, including office staff, administration, some learning assistants, caretaking, utilities such as heat, power, water, and other day-to-day operations.
Unfortunately, the government funding we receive falls short of the actual costs of running our school and maintaining the high-quality learning environment we strive to provide. While we are grateful for the amazing support from our Chelsea PTA, your donation is essential to bridge the gap and ensure we continue to deliver the exceptional learning opportunities our tamariki deserve.
Our donation is set at $300 per student (or $75 per term).
Why Your Contribution Matters
Traditionally, a high percentage of Chelsea families generously choose to pay the school donation each year. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who has supported us in the past and to those who will support us this year.
Your donation directly impacts the quality of resources and opportunities we can provide. Some examples of how we use your contributions include:
– Additional teacher resourcing to allow teachers time for professional development, which benefits all learners.
– In-class learning assistants to support students with additional learning needs.
– Classroom resources to enhance teaching and learning experiences.
– Sports and outdoor equipment
– Consumables, such as paper, soap, tissues, hand towels, first aid supplies, and printing materials.
Tax Rebate Opportunity
If you pay your donation before March 31 each year, you can claim a tax rebate from the IRD.
Thank You for Your Support
On behalf of the Chelsea Primary School Board, Leadership Team, staff, and—most importantly—our learners, we extend a huge thank you for your generosity. Your contribution plays a vital role in ensuring that we can Grow Great Learners.

Walking School Bus
A Walking School Bus is similar to a normal school bus except children walk to and/or from school along a designated route, under the supervision of parent volunteers who act as the Walking School Bus driver.
Walking School Buses reduce the number of cars on the road, making our environment safer and cleaner. Children also learn about road safety as they walk and get some exercise in a fun and social way.
Ours starts at the corner of Porritt Ave and Mappin Place. For information contact – Suzie Saward at suzanne.poutsma@gmail.com
