English for Speakers of other Languages (ESOL)
At Chelsea Primary School we cater for a range of children who speak English as a second language. Our ESOL Team has been recognised as highly effective by the Ministry of Education at their most recent visit in November 2022. They stated that the ESOL support is provided by an experienced and dedicated teacher who is very passionate about providing language acquisition for English Language Learners. The teacher has considerable knowledge and skills in ESOL that benefit and assist English Language Learners and staff at Chelsea School. The Principal is very supportive of the ESOL Team and the work it does.
Children with an ESOL need are mainly taught by their classroom teacher but also receive additional support from our ESOL Team. This assistance may consist of in-class support or sessions outside of the main classroom.
